McLaren’s first ‘Hyper-GT,’ the Speedtail is the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1 with a central driving position and two additional passenger seats. It’s elongated 5.2-meter carbon-fiber body and teardrop-shaped cockpit combine to make it the most aero-drag efficient McLaren road car ever. Power comes from a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain rated at 1,035 horsepower that enables the Speedtail to sprint from 0-186 mph in 12.8 seconds, almost 4 seconds quicker than the McLaren P1. Using a unique ‘Velocity’ mode, the powertrain and active aeros are optimized to achieve the maximum speed of 250 mph. Special features include advanced electrochromic glass that darkens the top of the windscreen at the touch of a button, eliminating the need for sunvisors, interwoven carbon titanium materials used in the luxuriously appointed cabin, retractable digital rear-view cameras and carbon-fiber front-wheel static aero-covers. Priced at £1.75 million plus taxes (around $2.2 million), only 106 units will be produced and all have been sold.
