Vishu festival celebrated in Kerala State, India usually in the second week of April in the Gregorian calendar signifies Vernal Equinox or sun's transit into first zodiac sign (the Meda Raasi) according to Indian astrological calculations."Vishu" in Sanskrit means "equal". Festival celebrated with traditional "Vishukkani" meaning "the first auspicious sight after waking up on Vishu day. Kani consists of a ritual arrangement of rice, fruits, vegetables, golden cucumber, religious photos, books, lamps and gold coins. Vishu is celebrated with much fanfare and vigour in all parts of Kerala regardless of religious differences sharing pleasantries, food and sweets.
