This Ancient Greek aphorism, γνωθι σεαυτον, translates to "Know Thyself." It is one of the Delphic maxims and was inscribed in the pronaos (forecourt) of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi according to the Greek writer Pausanias. It was popularized by Plato by having the character of Socrates use it throughout his dialogues.
