In 2008, Chevrolet decided to add another legend-in-the-making to its history of special-edition Corvettes with the Z06 427 Limited Edition Coupe. Limited to 505 units (matching the 427 CI engine’s output of 505 HP), the Z06 427 Limited Edition was issued to commemorate the storied Mark IV big-block engine introduced in 1965. Rated at a mighty 425 HP, that first Mark IV engine displaced 396 CI, but in 1966, Chevrolet increased that number to the official NASCAR limit of 427, creating a magic number that still evokes images of the fire-breathing midyear big-block Corvette.
